Less than 10% of the agricultural production in Rwanda is processed - which is one of the constraints for the development of agricultural value chains in Rwanda. One channel through which value chains could be further developed in Rwanda is by enhancing agri-businesses (processing, cold storage, drying)’ access to affordable sources of electricity, like solar energy. The study is carried out for the World Bank (part of a World Bank advisory service to the Government of Rwanda) and technical partner FAO. It assesses the market opportunities and challenges for adoption and scale up of solar technologies for agriculture in Rwanda and identifies investment opportunities for boosting the use of these technologies in Rwanda. It includes the documentation of the different solar technologies currently being used, assessment of the economic and financial returns of such technologies, and aggregates estimates of the market potential of solar energy and agriculture in Rwanda.
